Armenia

Armenia has a rich and ancient history that spans several millennia. Between Eastern Anatolia and the Armenian highlands, Armenia is surrounded by the Biblical mountains of Ararat. The endonym of the Armenians is “hay,” and the old Armenian name for the country is “Hayk’,” later “Hayastan.” Armenians traditionally associate this name with the legendary progenitor of the Armenian people, Hayk.

The modern capital of Armenia, Yerevan, dates back to the 8th century BC, and the time of  King Argishti I.
