1. Petra

Visiting the ancient city of Petra is always a highlight of a tour to Jordan. Entering the Rose City through it’s towering gateway feels like you’ve stepped right onto a movie set. Behind the gate lies a forgotten city carved into high cliffs, dating back more than 2000 years.Feeling as small as an ant standing inside this momentous gorge is a surreal experience you won’t find anywhere else. Once an essential stop on the famous Silk Road, Petra was suddenly abandoned in the 12th century and no one quite knows why. Being the lowest point on earth and charged with an extremely high salt content, you can float in the Dead Sea without any effort whatsoever. Drifting down the Dead Sea surrounded by russet-coloured dunes and towering mountains, floating to your heart’s content is one of the most unique experiences in the world.

3. Wadi Rum

Visiting the desert valley of Wadi Rum is a unique experience that you can only have in Jordan. Ride a camel across red dunes, narrow gorges and stone arches. And come nightfall, gaze up in awe as the clear night sky reveals the enchanting curve of the milky way. After an evening in the desert camp enjoying a traditional dinner grilled over ambers buried beneath the earth, wake to the glowing, sun-scorched scene as you head out for an epic, desert safari. 4. Karak

The city of Karak is a favourite stop on the way to the Dead Sea. An ancient, fortified castle is perched high on the city’s hill, providing incredible views of the surrounding area – on a clear day you can see all the way to the Dead Sea. Built by the Crusaders in the 12th century, this is one of the largest castles in the area and often one of the biggest highlights of a tour to Jordan.

5. Madaba

The City of Mosaics’ is a traditional market city, dominated by a stunning golden mosque. Madaba is peppered with crumbling Roman relics, and the town is brimming with old-age charm. Visit the Orthodox St George Cathedral which is home to the 6th century Mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. 6. Amman

The capital city of Jordan, Amman, is the perfect place to visit if you want to experience the vibrant side of the country. Walk through the narrow streets of downtown, where souks and mosques fill the air with prayers and chanting. Explore the chic boutiques and cafes in Abdali and visit the Roman Theatre and the Ammonite remains. Or simply give in to the pulsing Arabian music and dance your way into the early hours of the morning.

7. Jerash

The ancient city of Jerash is one of the biggest highlights of a tour to Jordan. Walk through the towering, arched gateway into a crumbling city of Greco-Roman relics. Wander the cobblestoned streets exploring ancient monuments, exotic temples and classical theatres. A must-see in Jerash is the Hippodrome which hosted chariot races during the Roman rule in Jordan. 8. Al-Maghtas

On the close border between Israel and Jordan, is a compound of digging sites and ruins, the Al-Maghtas. 10. Mujib Nature Reserve

The Mujib Nature Reserve is one of the best places to visit in Jordan, especially if you like hiking. Trekking through rugged gorges, narrow canyons, and steep valleys is a unique experience and not one to be missed. The scenery is breathtaking as you follow the hidden walkways and winding rivers that merge into the Dead Sea. It’s also an excellent place for adrenaline-fuelled activities like zip-lining and rock climbing.

11. Al-Ghor

Just when you think Jordan is all desert and dust, we come to Al-Ghor. A lush, fertile area along the Jordan River, Al-Ghor comes as a refreshing stop on your Middle-Eastern tour. Spend a few days hiking the verdant countryside, snacking on freshly grown bananas and dates. 12. Mount Nebo

Possibly one of the most photogenic places in Jordan, the stunning Mount Nebo is a sacred site for many rituals. The most visited site on Mount Nebo is the memorial of Moses. Christians believe this to be the place where Moses was finally laid to rest.
