Solo travel for people under 30

Searching for adventure? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Whether you’re a seasoned couple of backpackers returning to their favourite spot, or a first time solo travelling, we can suggest a range of tours to satisfy those itchy feet! Whether you’re on a gap year, taking a group tour with friends or just need a little 2 week break, take a look at our tours below – we’re sure something will peak your interest!

One of the best parts of travelling is meeting like-minded adventurers along the way, and it couldn’t be easier than with a group tour! Unlike many other singles holidays for 18 – 30 year olds, our tours have no age bracket. You’ll be travelling alongside a diverse group of people with a variety of backgrounds, stories to tell and experiences to share, making the trip all the more interesting!

If you’re looking for an adventurous trek through the tropical Amazon Jungle in Peru, yearning to experience the vibrant, street-dancing city of Havana or even just longing to lay back and enjoy the paradise views from one of the many beaches of Thailand, we have lots of tours perfect for single travellers under 30 who want more than just a party holiday.

where to go?

Tucan Travel recommends a wide selection of tours perfect for solo travellers under 30. With so many places to choose from, one of the hardest things is deciding where to go! But, one of the biggest joys of solo travel is that it’s completely up to you where you go. The saying ‘the world is your oyster’ has never been more apt!

solo travel tips

Going on your first solo holiday can sound daunting, but believe us when we say it won’t be! Tucan Travel has been operating group tours worldwide since 1987. We ceased operating our own tours in 2020; we now use our extensive experience to recommend other expert operators.

We only recommend tours that are accompanied by expert guides. You are in safe hands. Always do your research before visiting a new country, but here are a few key tips that are worth knowing:

1) Learn some key phrases

When travelling to a new country, learning a couple of key phrases always does well. Even if it’s just hello, please, thank you, and goodbye, it is appreciated by the locals. A good tip is to keep a phrase book handy or download a translation app.

2) Pack a deck of card/card game

A great way to break the ice when travelling solo! Card games are a great way to bond with your fellow travellers when you inevitably have to take that long train ride or are sitting on the veranda waiting for the rain to let up.

3) Get some travel insurance!

This is more of a compulsory item than a tip, but a tip nonetheless! Get some travel insurance – tour leaders will check your documents before your trip begins.

4) Get out of your comfort zone

Going solo on an adventure holiday is a great (and safe) way to step out of your comfort zone. Meet new people, taste new food, and try an activity you wouldn’t normally do if you were alone. Group tours provide the perfect opportunity to try new things.

Solo travel FAQs

Travelling solo can be a bit intimidating and sometimes stressful – especially if it’s your first time! Group tours are the perfect way to take out the hassle of planning a trip on your own. You’ll be with a group of like-minded people which can also give you that little boost you need to step outside of your comfort zone!

Accommodation varies from place to place and depends on your tour operator and teh package you bought. We recommend operators who use small, locally-owned guesthouses, hostels and hotels to give you the most authentic experience possible. You may be offered the chance to share with one or two others from the same sex. However, we suggest you discuss this with your tour operator.

Of course! Group tours don’t have to mean being herded from attraction to attraction with no time to yourself. We make sure to factor in enough free time so you can also go off on your own adventures!

This depends on the tour you have booked. Depending on where you are travelling to and your booking style,  expect a mixture of flights, private overland trucks, local buses and even tuk-tuks if you travel to Asia!

Most tours offer the option to book a couple of extra nights at the arrival or departure destinations to make the most of the city you’re in. You should discuss this with your operator before departure.

No. Flights to and from tours are not included unless you have arranged a specific deal with your operator.
