Tucan Travel have been operating group tours since 1987 and have expert experience taking solo travellers around the world. If you’re yearning for solo traveller holidays and you’re over 50 then you should not be nervous about going on a trip on your own! To ease any pre-travel nerves we have a selection of top tips to help you plan your single vacation.
1) Research, research, research
If you want to see the wildebeest migration in Kenya or hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu it’s always worth researching a few months in advance. High season dates often sell out or in the case of the Inca Trail or Gorilla Trek in Uganda, permits may sell out in advance. Our Adventure Specialists are on hand to answer any questions you may have about any of our solo holidays.
This is also the case for vaccinations and visas. Have a chat with your doctor ahead of your trip to ensure you have the required vaccinations for the countries you are visiting. If your tour requires a visa make sure you speak to the local embassy or visit our Visa Page for more information.
2) Practice your languages
We are not saying you need to be a walking phrase book but it is always handy to know a few phrases especially as for single traveller holidays. If you are arriving early and have not booked a transfer with Tucan Travel you may need some local sentances to get to your hotel. Pack a guide book or download a translation app to help you when you take a trip for singles over 50!
3) Check in with your family
It can be tempting to go off the grid when going on singles holidays however it is always good to give someone at home an idea of where you are going and your travel itinerary. Similarly, our tours have a fantastic combination of included excursions and free time for optional excursions. If you want to go exploring on your own in a new destination, keep the Tour Leader in the loop – they may be able to point you in the direction of some hidden local gems!
4) Break the ice
Our tours are extremely popular with solo travellers especially those aged over 50. Bring some cards or games to get chatting with your new tour pals – you will be suprised with how many end up as friends for life.
